FAQ's - About winning Awards in general

Q: Are business awards really worth the effort?

A: Yes — If you approach them strategically. Awards build instant credibility, differentiate your brand, energise your team, and open doors to PR, speaking opportunities, and new business. But like any investment, the value comes from doing it right — not just “having a go.”

Q: What kind of awards should we be entering?

A: That depends on your goals. Some awards are great for visibility, some for employer branding, others for industry credibility. I help clients map the best-fit awards and categories based on what they want to achieve — and what they can realistically win.

Q: How many awards should we enter?

A: Quality over quantity. I’d rather see you enter one well-chosen category with a knockout submission than scatter entries across 10 competitions. Some clients do one a year, others run full award campaigns — we tailor it to you and the stories that you have to tell.

FAQ's - About the How To Win Awards process

Q: What’s the first step?
A: Usually, it’s a quick call. I get a feel for your goals, where you are now, and whether you’re a good fit for awards. From there, we decide if you need a strategy session, writing support, or full campaign help.

Q: How long does an award submission take?
A: Typical timeline is 2–4 weeks, depending on how much content already exists and how quickly we can gather the right insights. If you’re in a rush and the deadline’s tight, I can often turn things around faster—just ask.

Q: We’ve already drafted our awards submission—can you just review or edit it?
A: Absolutely. I can step in at any stage: review, rewrite, restructure, or polish. I’ll give you feedback on what’s missing (or unclear), and make sure it’s tight, judge-friendly, and positioned to win.

FAQ's - About working with me

Q: What exactly do you do?
A: I help businesses win awards through three service types:

  • Strategy: Shortlisting the right awards and crafting your positioning.

  • Writing: Either writing the full submission or improving your draft.

  • Done-for-you: Full campaign management—strategy, writing, admin, and deadlines handled.

I’ve helped businesses win over 50 awards, from startups to global brands. This isn’t guesswork—it’s a proven process.

Q: Who actually writes the submission?
A: I do. No outsourcing, no junior team. Every submission is written (or reviewed) personally by me—Matt Ansell—so you know you’re getting 20+ years of experience behind every word.

Q: Can you help us enter multiple awards or manage a full campaign?
A: Yes, I work with several clients on multi-award campaigns or retained support—especially if you want to build a long-term recognition strategy. Let’s talk about what that might look like for your brand.

Q: Do you work with agencies or PR teams?
A: Yes. I partner with agencies as an “award specialist” to support their clients. If you’re an agency leader looking to win more for your clients, I can be your secret weapon.

FAQ's - About pricing

Q: How much does it cost to work with you?
A: Strategy sessions start from £495. Full submission writing starts from £1,495. Done-for-you campaigns start from £2,950. All pricing is fixed and quoted in advance—no hidden surprises.

I also offer bundle pricing for multiple entries or retained support.

Q: Is there a guarantee we’ll win?
A: No one can guarantee a win — and anyone who says otherwise is selling snake oil, or planning to enter you for an award where everyone is a winner! I rarely recommend those types of awards, because they tend not to offer the up-sides that competitive awards can give.
What I can guarantee is that your entry will be strategically positioned, clearly written, judge-aligned, and submitted to a high professional standard. That dramatically increases your chances of winning.

Q: We don’t have a huge budget—can we still get help?
A: Yes. Start with the free resources on my website, or book a one-off strategy session. If you want to DIY your submission, you can also get my book, How to Win Awards—it gives you the same framework I use with clients.

Q: Do your fees cover the cost of entering any awards?
A: No. My fees cover the cost of my time and I would highlight any additional costs during the strategy phase of my work.
As a ballpark budget, allow for £250 per award entry and £500 per seat at the awards event (if they offer one).
